Morning Journal Brief is a weekly letter for people who take games and puzzles seriously enough to argue about them. It runs to one issue a week. Nothing arrives in between.

A typical issue does one of a few things. It compares two puzzle books head to head, so a reader knows which grades and grid sizes each one holds. It settles a rules dispute with the actual rulebook open. It hunts down a secondhand edition worth owning, and warns which reprints ship with pieces missing. Or it walks a single solving technique across a real grid, one move at a time.

It is written for the player who has finished the easy tier and wants to know why the hard one resists. That means the sudoku coverage goes past trial and error, and the crossword and word-game coverage treats disputes as questions with findable answers.

It does not review video games, chase release-day news, or rank anything for the sake of a ranking. It does not pad an issue to hit a length. When there is one useful thing to say that week, that is the issue.
